August 5 AZDOP Meeting: William Georgevich, Astronomer "New Energy for a New Earth"
"There can never be peace in the world as long as humans believe that limited, non-renewable energy resources are civilization's only option. Our talk will explore breakthrough renewable energy technologies that could be in place today -- ending world conflict around fossil fuels.
There is a lot of discussion in the press about renewal energy, but to many, how it all works remains a mystery. This talk will reveal the science behind the mystery, so you can make informed decisions about supporting various energy options.
 |
A working scale-model hydrogen fuel cell electric car, complete with a hydrogen filling station that makes hydrogen from ordinary water powered by solar cells, will be available for audience inspection. As part of AZDOP's "Peace in Space" initiative, we will conclude the talk with a plan to harvest the sun's energy directly from space using solar satellites. This technology was seriously researched by NASA during the first oil crisis and has scientists interested once again. Find out how much closer we are to this "New Energy for a New Earth" - 35 years later."

Uqualla Havasupi Spiritual Emmisary & Cultural Guardian
"I am of the people of the Blue-Green Waters: Havasupai. Birthed to the Grand Canyon in the season of the hunts and seed gatherings. My journey's path began with life on the rim of the Grand Canyon. My spirit memories began with gatherings of the neighboring clans. The oratory, songs, and dances created my spiritual foundation. I have seen many walks as I have led my people as tribal chief, a ceremonial dresser, traditional advisor, and steward of cultural events. As ceremonial Facilitator, I have been given the responsibility of bridging the physical and spiritual. I am guided by the medicines, spirits, and all the Wisdom Keepers of time. I invite you to share with me the blessings of the Great Spirit."

What Dads Really Want for Father’s Day
June 1 to 16: Please Join us for this National Action Campaign for FATHERS DAY (June 17): AZDOP Campaign joins our national Peace Alliance and our national Student Peace Alliance, in sponsoring the 2nd National Action Campaign:
"What Dads Really Want for Father's Day
"Join the Student Peace Alliance and fathers across the country in writing Letters-to-the-Editor for Father's Day. We are calling for a national dialogue to address the root causes of violence. Our current level of violence is an unacceptable future for our children. Now, more than ever, we need new methods to address and solve conflict before it escalates into violence. We must call upon our legislators to support HR 808, calling for a Department of Peace that will give institutional heft to the burgeoning science of peacebuilding. "

AZDOP 2007 Peace of the Pie
On Thursday May 10, we arranged a unique opportunity, thanks to AZ State Rep. David Lujan, to serve "pieces of Peace Pie" in the Ice Cream Parlor of the historic State Capitol Rotunda in Phoenix.
Thanks to Dr. Mike for donating the Costco apple pies...they rock!
All 90 elected officials and all staff were invited.
Mitzi Lynton, Susanna and Mary Holt (Mary is Susannah's mom, visiting from France), Beverly Janowitz-Price, Lynne Ericksson, JulieAnna Miller, and I were the happy hostesses, and what an amazing morning it was.
The four bipartisan State Representatives David Lujan, Mark Anderson, Kyrsten Sinema and Steve Gallardo who sponsored our HCM2001 "memorial" this year (to send a postcard to Congress urging them to create the US Dept. of Peace) all attended.
AZDOP gratefully presented each of them with a desk top Peace Pole, with personal inscription thanking them for their support.

Today in 2006, 214 years later, the Campaign to create a cabinet level Department of Peace in the federal government, has grown from an idea to a local movement to a national movement to an international movement...and inevitably will evolve into a galactic movement.

Year 2000 was a starting point for a major mobilization as it was the International Year for the Culture of Peace (UN Resolution A /RES/52/15): see IYCP Exhibition. On this special occasion, a global movement for a culture of peace was initiated by the United Nations to create a " grand alliance " of existing movements that unites all those already working for a culture of peace in its eight domains of action. This movement is now growing with the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-violence for the Children of the World (2001-2010) (UN Resolution A /RES/53/25). |
