"Living Green, What does it mean?"

Greg earned a masters degree in Urban and Environmental Planning from ASU in 2006 and has a long rich history of farming/gardening in drylands. In 2001 Greg created a new concept called the Urban Farm, a real world environmental showcase home in the heart of Phoenix, Arizona. Utilizing his extensive background, he developed an innovative holistic sustainability site, the Urban Farm (http://www.UrbanFarm.org) The Urban Farm is located on a 1/3-acre lot and features almost entirely edible landscape, rainwater and greywater harvesting, solar applications, and green building and remodeling. Greg is a writer, teacher and lecturer on many aspects of living green. His passion is to present green living in a way that the receivers can conceptualize and implement the concepts into their own lives and spaces. He currently is a contributing writer for both Edible Phoenix Magazine, and Phoenix Magazine. In addition he is a primary writer and host for the new television show Smart Spaces: Inside & Out ).

May 8 & 9: MOTHERS DAY, APPLE PIES & PEACE

Sponsored by AZDOP & DOP Campaigns (Peace Alliance)

The seed for Mothers Day was planted by great women, including Julia Ward Howe, who during the Civil War, 1861-65, encouraged mothers all over this  beautiful Earth to urge their sons to lay down their weapons and live in peace.

For the 4th year in a row, advocates for the US Department of Peace & Nonviolence  deliver apple pies to the offices of Senators McCain & Kyl, and Representatives Renzi, Franks, Shadegg, Pastor, Mitchell, Flake, Grijalva and Giffords. We urge then to join Rep. Grijalva in sponsoring the HR808 legislation in Congress to create the U.S. Dept. of Peace & Nonviolence.

We alert them to the fact that "Peace" wants a "piece" of the "pie", 1-2% of the federal discretionary spending budget. (See attached chart)

Name a Galaxy for Peace

Show your support for a Department of Peace: name a galaxy for Peace on Earth and Peace in Space!

After being inspired by Robert McCall's masterpiece painting "Peace on Earth and Peace in Space" (image on right) created for schoolchildren at NASA in 2000, and as an example of connecting, collaborating and co-creating... the Arizona Department of Peace (AZDOP) Campaign and Windowpane Observatory in Ajo, Arizona, bring you a unique opportunity to have a galaxy named for you...in peace.

Click here to name a galaxy

The "Galaxies for Peace" website has been created by Windowpane Observatory scientists and artists to be a fundraiser for peace... peace in action on Earth and in Space.

This Galaxies for Peace fundraiser launches on the United Nations International Day of Non-Violence, Oct. 2, the day of Gandhi's Birthday.

We humans are invited to become galactic ambassadors of peace, as we create peace within our own hearts, which then emanates to our families, our communities, our country, our Planet Earth, our Galaxy, and into all of Space. We are all connected.

All contributions support AZDOP's campaign for a U.S. Department of Peace as well as the science of astronomical discovery at Windowpane Observatory. The AZDOP Campaign is a grassroots, inclusive, nonpartisan, proactive, solution-oriented organization which supports the creation of a national Dept. of Peace which will research, articulate, and facilitate nonviolent solutions to domestic and international conflicts.

Windowpane Observatory is searching for comets, earth-crossing asteroids, and supernovae in far distant galaxies. Their philosophy is that by finding our place in the universe, we can expand our awareness beyond the confines of this planet and gain a more cosmic perspective to cope with our daily challenges here on Earth.

Arizona Department of Peace Campaign CommUnity Excellence Award

Interfaith Unity Church
1731 W. Baseline, #108, Mesa, AZ 85202
(SE corner of Pennington & Baseline, 1 block east of Dobson, in the Coppertree Plaza)

On Sunday, September 9th, Interfaith Unity Church will award their Second Annual Community Award of Excellence to the Arizona Department of Peace Campaign. In 1792, Founding Father Dr. Benjamin Rush wrote an extraordinary essay titled "A Plan of a Peace Office for the United States." 215 years later, this Campaign to create a cabinet level Department of Peace in the federal government has grown from an idea to a local movement to a national movement to an international movement. Interfaith Unity honors the exciting work toward global peace that this organization embodies.

Representing the AZ Department of Peace Campaign will be cofounder and executive director Terri Mansfield, and assistant state coordinator Rev. Mitzi Lynton. Special music for the 10:30AM service will be provided by local Valley combo Jazz Blue.

The theme for the entire month at Interfaith Unity is a celebration of World Religions, including an Interfaith Peace Service at 7:00PM on Wednesday, September 12, in honor of Unity World Day of Prayer.

18 of us Arizonans attended the last DOP Conference, in Sept. 2005. It was an experience of a lifetime.

We are now in the process of organizing 5 back to back meetings in our 8 Congressional Representatives' offices on The Hill in D.C. in 3 separate buildings: we have this down to a science.

It would be fabulous if AZDOP advocates from all 8 Congressional districts attended.  Please come to the planning meeting so we can talk about the details.

Lisa has read many of Marianne Williamson's books, and is thrilled to know that Marianne is the co-founder of our 3 year Campaign to advocate for the creation of a cabinet level Deptartment of Peace in the federal government.
