August 5 AZDOP Meeting: William Georgevich, Astronomer "New Energy for a New Earth"
"There can never be peace in the world as long as humans believe that limited, non-renewable energy resources are civilization's only option. Our talk will explore breakthrough renewable energy technologies that could be in place today -- ending world conflict around fossil fuels.
There is a lot of discussion in the press about renewal energy, but to many, how it all works remains a mystery. This talk will reveal the science behind the mystery, so you can make informed decisions about supporting various energy options.
A working scale-model hydrogen fuel cell electric car, complete with a hydrogen filling station that makes hydrogen from ordinary water powered by solar cells, will be available for audience inspection. As part of AZDOP's "Peace in Space" initiative, we will conclude the talk with a plan to harvest the sun's energy directly from space using solar satellites. This technology was seriously researched by NASA during the first oil crisis and has scientists interested once again. Find out how much closer we are to this "New Energy for a New Earth" - 35 years later."
You can also get sense of this presentation by visiting Bill and his team at their blog. Two of Bill’s other important projects are: WindowpaneObservatory and GalaxiesForPeace

"I am of the people of the Blue-Green Waters: Havasupai. Birthed to the Grand Canyon in the season of the hunts and seed gatherings. My journey's path began with life on the rim of the Grand Canyon. My spirit memories began with gatherings of the neighboring clans. The oratory, songs, and dances created my spiritual foundation. I have seen many walks as I have led my people as tribal chief, a ceremonial dresser, traditional advisor, and steward of cultural events. As ceremonial Facilitator, I have been given the responsibility of bridging the physical and spiritual. I am guided by the medicines, spirits, and all the Wisdom Keepers of time. I invite you to share with me the blessings of the Great Spirit."

May 8 & 9: MOTHERS DAY, APPLE PIES & PEACE
Sponsored by AZDOP & DOP Campaigns (Peace Alliance)
The seed for Mothers Day was planted by great women, including Julia Ward Howe, who during the Civil War, 1861-65, encouraged mothers all over this beautiful Earth to urge their sons to lay down their weapons and live in peace.
For the 4th year in a row, advocates for the US Department of Peace & Nonviolence deliver apple pies to the offices of Senators McCain & Kyl, and Representatives Renzi, Franks, Shadegg, Pastor, Mitchell, Flake, Grijalva and Giffords. We urge then to join Rep. Grijalva in sponsoring the HR808 legislation in Congress to create the U.S. Dept. of Peace & Nonviolence.
We alert them to the fact that "Peace" wants a "piece" of the "pie", 1-2% of the federal discretionary spending budget. (See attached chart)

After being inspired by Robert McCall's masterpiece painting "Peace on Earth and Peace in Space" (image on right) created for schoolchildren at NASA in 2000, and as an example of connecting, collaborating and co-creating... the Arizona Department of Peace (AZDOP) Campaign and Windowpane Observatory in Ajo, Arizona, bring you a unique opportunity to have a galaxy named for you...in peace.
Click here to name a galaxy
The "Galaxies for Peace" website has been created by Windowpane Observatory scientists and artists to be a fundraiser for peace... peace in action on Earth and in Space.
This Galaxies for Peace fundraiser launches on the United Nations International Day of Non-Violence, Oct. 2, the day of Gandhi's Birthday.
We humans are invited to become galactic ambassadors of peace, as we create peace within our own hearts, which then emanates to our families, our communities, our country, our Planet Earth, our Galaxy, and into all of Space. We are all connected.
All contributions support AZDOP's campaign for a U.S. Department of Peace as well as the science of astronomical discovery at Windowpane Observatory. The AZDOP Campaign is a grassroots, inclusive, nonpartisan, proactive, solution-oriented organization which supports the creation of a national Dept. of Peace which will research, articulate, and facilitate nonviolent solutions to domestic and international conflicts.
Windowpane Observatory is searching for comets, earth-crossing asteroids, and supernovae in far distant galaxies. Their philosophy is that by finding our place in the universe, we can expand our awareness beyond the confines of this planet and gain a more cosmic perspective to cope with our daily challenges here on Earth.

Jan AZDOP Meeting Seeds of Peace & DC Conference Planning
Join us January 8th for a special presentation by our friend Columbia University student Hannah Assadi, Founder AZ Teen Chapter of Seeds of Peace.
Hannah will discuss her experiences with the Vision Program of Abraham's Vision, creating a movement of American Jewish, Muslim and Palestinian leaders.
Mandala Tearoom from 6-8 pm: 7027 East 5th Ave. Scottsdale, AZ 85251 (southeast corner of 5th Ave. Goldwater)
Following Hannah's talk, we will host an "Intensive" on what to expect at the 5th national Dept. of Peace Conference in Washington, D.C. Feb. 3-5, 2007.
18 of us Arizonans attended the last DOP Conference, in Sept. 2005. It was an experience of a lifetime.
We are now in the process of organizing 5 back to back meetings in our 8 Congressional Representatives' offices on The Hill in D.C. in 3 separate buildings: we have this down to a science.
It would be fabulous if AZDOP advocates from all 8 Congressional districts attended. Please come to the planning meeting so we can talk about the details.
Monthly Meeting at SMOCA Thursday, Dec. 14 @ 4:00PM
The SMOCA docents will give us a free private tour of the very timely and impactful Border Film Project.
Afterwards, we will have a discussion of the role the AZDOP Campaign members can play in addressing immigration issues using mediation and conflict resolution dialogue.
We have also invited AZ State Reps. David Lujan and Mark Anderson to brief us on the pending second introduction of the Dept. of Peace "memorial" into the AZ State Legislature in January 2007.
Your involvement in this process is requested.
SMOCA 7374 East 2nd Street Scottsdale, AZ 85251 480.874.4666
Please let us know if you will attend.
Scientist from What the Bleep OCTOBER 3, 2006
We have a great evening in store for you! Our very special guest speaker is physicist Dr. William Tiller, PhD one of the "Stars" of "What the Bleep Do We Know?"
Dr. Tiller will talk about his extraordinary background, his involvement with the "Bleep" experience, and his ongoing studies in consciousness.
- How does this impact the Department of Peace Campaign in Arizona and beyond?
- How does focusing on our consciousness affect the creation of a US Department of Peace?
- What tools can we use to help us to become peace?
Join us for a lively Q & A and find out.
Dr. Tiller's latest book is "Some Science Adventures With Real Magic".

But all will make you think about the way youve been conducting your life.

AZDOP Monthly Meeting June 6, 2006, Tuesday 6-8 pm
PLACE: StarShine Academy / 2801 N. 31st St. / Phoenix, AZ 85008 (parking in the church parking lot just north of the school.)
GUEST SPEAKERS: Gerald Richard II, Assistant Phoenix Police Chief & Director of Community Services, AND Sgt. Lisa Ruggiero, Police Dept. Patrol Support Division, Community Services Bureau
When we met with Gerald and Lisa a few weeks ago, we found that the Phoenix Police Department and the AZDOP Campaign share many of the same goals...to educate our fellow citizens on practical applications of peace in our community.
Lisa has read many of Marianne Williamson's books, and is thrilled to know that Marianne is the co-founder of our 3 year Campaign to advocate for the creation of a cabinet level Deptartment of Peace in the federal government.
Bring your questions and comments...
We will also share with you the common concerns from our Senate and Congressional offices during our delivery of the Peace Pies during the week of May 8-12.
