In 2001 Greg created a new concept called the Urban Farm, a real world environmental showcase home in the heart of Phoenix, Arizona. Utilizing his extensive background, he developed an innovative holistic sustainability site, the Urban Farm (http://www.UrbanFarm.org) The Urban Farm is located on a 1/3-acre lot and features almost entirely edible landscape, rainwater and greywater harvesting, solar applications, and green building and remodeling.  Greg is a writer, teacher and lecturer on many aspects of living green. His passion is to present green living in a way that the receivers can conceptualize and implement the concepts into their own lives and spaces. He currently is a contributing writer for both Edible Phoenix Magazine, and Phoenix Magazine. In addition he is a primary writer and host for the new television show Smart Spaces: Inside & Out ).

May 8 & 9: MOTHERS DAY, APPLE PIES & PEACE

Sponsored by AZDOP & DOP Campaigns (Peace Alliance)

The seed for Mothers Day was planted by great women, including Julia Ward Howe, who during the Civil War, 1861-65, encouraged mothers all over this beautiful Earth to urge their sons to lay down their weapons and live in peace.

For the 4th year in a row, advocates for the US Department of Peace & Nonviolence  deliver apple pies to the offices of Senators McCain & Kyl, and Representatives Renzi, Franks, Shadegg, Pastor, Mitchell, Flake, Grijalva and Giffords. We urge then to join Rep. Grijalva in sponsoring the HR808 legislation in Congress to create the U.S. Dept. of Peace & Nonviolence.

We alert them to the fact that "Peace" wants a "piece" of the "pie", 1-2% of the federal discretionary spending budget. (See attached chart)

What Dads Really Want
for Father’s Day

June 1 to 16:
Please Join us for this National Action Campaign for FATHERS DAY (June 17):

AZDOP Campaign joins our national Peace Alliance and our national Student Peace Alliance, in sponsoring the 2nd National Action Campaign:

"What Dads Really Want for Father's Day

"Join the Student Peace Alliance and fathers across the country in writing Letters-to-the-Editor for Father's Day. We are calling for a national dialogue to address the root causes of violence. Our current level of violence is an unacceptable future for our children. Now, more than ever, we need new methods to address and solve conflict before it escalates into violence. We must call upon our legislators to support HR 808, calling for a Department of Peace that will give institutional heft to the burgeoning science of peacebuilding. "

AZDOP 2007
Peace of the Pie

On Thursday May 10, we arranged a unique opportunity, thanks to AZ State Rep. David Lujan, to serve "pieces of Peace Pie" in the Ice Cream Parlor of the historic State Capitol Rotunda in Phoenix.

Thanks to Dr. Mike for donating the Costco apple pies...they rock!

All 90 elected officials and all staff were invited.

Mitzi Lynton, Susanna and Mary Holt (Mary is Susannah's mom, visiting from France), Beverly Janowitz-Price, Lynne Ericksson, JulieAnna Miller, and I were the happy hostesses, and what an amazing morning it was.

The four bipartisan State Representatives David Lujan, Mark Anderson, Kyrsten Sinema and Steve Gallardo who sponsored our HCM2001 "memorial" this year (to send a postcard to Congress urging them to create the US Dept. of Peace) all attended.

AZDOP gratefully presented each of them with a desk top Peace Pole, with personal inscription thanking them for their support.

In 1792, Founding Father Dr. Benjamin Rush wrote an extraordinary essay titled "A Plan of a Peace Office for the United States".

Today in 2006, 214 years later, the Campaign to create a cabinet level Department of Peace in the federal government, has grown from an idea to a local movement to a national movement to an international movement...and inevitably will evolve into a galactic movement.

Year 2000 was a starting point for a major mobilization as it was the
International Year for the Culture of Peace (UN Resolution A /RES/52/15): see IYCP Exhibition. On this special occasion, a global movement for a culture of peace was initiated by the United Nations to create a " grand alliance " of existing movements that unites all those already working for a culture of peace in its eight domains of action. This movement is now growing with the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-violence for the Children of the World (2001-2010) (UN Resolution A /RES/53/25).
